Solar Rights

California laws that protect homeowners rights to install solar energy systems on their property. Under the Solar Rights Act and Civil Code Section 714, HOAs cannot prohibit the installation of solar panels and can only impose reasonable restrictions that do not significantly increase the cost or decrease the efficiency of the system. Any restriction that increases cost by more than $1,000 or decreases efficiency by more than 10% is presumed unreasonable.
